Blast From The Past 6 – Television

Welcome to episode 6 of Blast From The Past Podcast. In episode 5 we looked at radio so in episode 6 we look at television. We discuss the introduction of television in Australia, growing up without having a TV at home, favourite TV shows, TV today and more.

Here’s a challenge for our non Australian listeners – what Australian shows do you get on American TV?

  1. Jen and I don’t get very much over-the-air TV, and we don’t subscribe to satellite/cable TV. So I can’t really say a lot about what Australian shows are imported into the U.S. I remember hearing about one that was picked up by HBO last year. But I can’t remember what it was called. Think it had something to do with a high school kid as the main character, and the actor who portrayed that character also played multiple roles in the show? In general, we export much more television than we import here in the States. It’s always been that way.

  2. That Ice Road Truckers has gotta be the most original idea for a television show / documentary I’ve seen in a long time.

And so far, you are right. The whole digital TV switchover thing seems to be making it even less possible for us to watch TV out here. I really hope that whole mess gets straightened out soon.

Sorry Erk, I can’t think of one Australian show that I watch. Closest I can come is the show “House”, because one of the characters is supposed to be an Australian, and I think I heard that the actor who plays House is actually from Australia. House is one of my favorite shows.
