Erk FM: Metal Monday 109 – In Case Of Emergency, Call The Bok!

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 109. This last week, Erk has been extremely busy behind the microphone but has not stepped foot in the Channel Erk studio for 6 days. How is this possible? Erk is just one of many people working behind the scenes working on the large fires around the greater Sydney area. As a result, this episode is a mixtape episode. The episode features Melbourne based metal band Frankenbok – these guys sum up the spirit of people Erk has worked with & seen on TV this week as they all work together for the one common goal.

This episode is dedicated to all of the men and women who worked many many hours in horrible conditions to defeat the beast of flame – a battle that will continue to go on as the episode is released.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 108 – Death Or Die Trying!

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 108. Erk decided to keep the death metal theme going from last week’s episode with music courtesy of AirPlay Direct. Erk hasn’t heard a progress report from Ro or Shawno with their results from Ikea or Death yet but at least they are alive!

Speaking of Shawno, he did some research about a certain German band & how to pronounce their name. He wrote: “Google Translate says that the band name Die Apokalyptischen Reiter means “The Horsemen of the Apocalypse” in English. This doesn’t make it any easier to pronounce in German, tho.”

Erk Pod 438 – Vegan Of Liberty & Freedom

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 438. Recorded from the Channel Erk studio in mid October 2013, it is the first Erk Pod episode in recent memory not featuring Erk in travel mode. It was a strange way to start an episode.  Erk was preparing an episode of Erk FM: Metal Monday. He had found a game called Ikea Or Death that he was looking to play with a band member & chat about what they are doing & play some music. With Ikea or death, you are given a name & have to determine if it is the name of an item you would buy at Ikea or is the name of a death metal band.

But in the meantime, Erk saw a discussion on Twitter about music between Dr Normal & Robert Wagner, both based in Portland OR. Both men made an appearance on Erk Pod during Erk’s 2013 trip. Erk weighed into this conversation, linking to a film clip from an Australian comedy group (The D Generation). So Erk & Dr Normal had a chat via Twitter then on G+. After an unrecorded conversation lasting 90 minutes while we were catching up, we decided to record the conversation which is this episode.

It was a wide ranging conversation that Erk would love to ask some of the same questions to Shawno & Tiggr in particular. We started talking about the current US Government shutdown where many US government services are shutdown to save money.  We then moved onto talking about the Statue of Liberty, Dr Normal’s status as a newly minted vegan, various things internet, 9/11 & more.

For the record, Erk & Dr Normal never did play Ikea or Death together. Erk later played solo on episode 107 of Erk FM: Metal Monday & scored 70%. […]

On The Rails With Erk

On The Rails With Erk 007 – Puffing Billy, Melbourne

Welcome to episode 7 of On The Rails With Erk. On this episode, Erk goes back in time & rides the Puffing Billy Railway in Melbourne between Belgrave, Menzies Creek & Emerald.  Many of the staff are volunteers (over 900 volunteers!) and the line runs in difficult country in the Dandengong Ranges.  Originally serving as the area’s main transport link, the 100 year old railway is preserved & runs as it would in the 1920’s, there are several services every day with the exception of Christmas Day.

Riding a current day suburban electric train to or from Belgrave is a great way to contrast with this train. Allow 1/2 a day as a minimum if you are in Melbourne.
